2. First Ever Race Meeting at Sandown (1965)

Sandown opened in 1965, making it the last metropolitan racetrack built in Melbourne. The first official race meeting drew a huge crowd, marking a new chapter in Melbourne racing. Over the years, Sandown has become a key venue for staying races, often used as a lead-up track for the Melbourne Spring Carnival.
