Unlike Ascot, which is used in summer, Belmont's superior drainage allows it to host high-quality racing during wet winter months. This distinction has made Belmont an essential part of Western Australian racing history.

2. Barakey’s Stunning Winterbottom Stakes Prelude Win (2012)

Barakey, one of Western Australia’s fastest sprinters, made a massive statement at Belmont in 2012, winning a lead-up race to the Winterbottom Stakes in dominant fashion. His Belmont performance signaled his arrival as a star, and he went on to win the Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes at Ascot later that year, finishing his career with 13 wins from 14 starts. His undefeated streak at Belmont remains one of the most talked-about in WA racing.

3. The Introduction of the Belmont Sprint (1963)

The Belmont Sprint (1600m) was first run in 1963 and has since become one of the most important weight-for-age races in WA. It has been won by legendary WA gallopers like Northerly (2002) and Luckygray (2012-13). As a key lead-up to the Railway Stakes, the Belmont Sprint continues to be a major highlight of Perth’s winter racing season.
