How to bet on the Moir Stakes with Bet Right
The A J Moir Stakes is a Group 1 thoroughbred race traditionally held at Melbourne's Moonee Valley Racecourse in early September. The race is a sprint, run over a distance of 1,000 meters (approximately 5 furlongs) and is open to horses aged three years and older. First run in 1976, the Moir Stakes has become known for its fast pace and exciting finishes, attracting some of the best sprinters in Australia. It is a key lead-up race to other major sprint races like the Manikato Stakes and the Makybe Diva Stakes. The Moir Stakes has a rich history, with many notable winners, including the likes of Black Caviar, Apache Cat, Nature Strip, Miss Andretti, Schillaci and Manikato, who have gone on to achieve success at both national and international levels. Its short distance and high stakes make it a great event for racing fans and a significant race in the Australian racing calendar.
Due to redeveloping, the 2026 running took place at the Sandown Racecourse. Though the transformation is due for completion by August 2027, thus requalifying as a venue for events like the Moir Stakes, it is not guaranteed. With potential for sudden delays or unforeseen complications, the redevelopment may be postponed further, so visit this page and Bet Right's Racing Calendar regularly to stay informed of this race's 2027 venue allocation.
