Australian Guineas.

How to bet on the Australian Guineas with Bet Right
The Australian Guineas is one of the marquee mile races for three-year-olds in the Autumn Racing Carnival in Melbourne. It is a Group 1 set-weights race run over 1,600 metres at Flemington Racecourse, usually in late February or early March. First held in 1986 as the Australasian Guineas, the race was upgraded to Group 1 status in 1987. With a prize pool of $1,000,000, it consistently attracts some of the best young milers from Australia and New Zealand. Serving as a key test early in the autumn for rising three-year-olds, the Australian Guineas often follows lead-up races such as the C.S. Hayes Stakes. Horses that perform well here frequently go on to challenge in further feature mile/rising middle-distance contests during the autumn, and some target races like The All Star Mile.
A defining moment in recent history came in 2021, when Lunar Fox pulled off one of the biggest upsets in the race’s history. Having not featured prominently in prior lead-ups, he won at odds of around 300-1, dramatically capturing the Australian Guineas and reminding everyone why this race remains unpredictable and exciting.
