2. Northerly’s Railway Stakes Triumph (2000)

Northerly, known as "The Fighting Tiger," won his first-ever Group 1 race in the 2000 Railway Stakes at Ascot. This victory launched his career, leading to back-to-back Cox Plate wins (2001-02) and his status as one of Australia’s greatest middle-distance horses. Northerly’s rise from Perth champion to national superstar is one of racing’s most inspiring stories.

3. The First Ever Perth Cup (1887)

The Perth Cup, one of Western Australia’s most prestigious staying races, was first run at Ascot in 1887. Over the years, it has been won by top-class stayers and remains a major highlight of the WA Summer Racing Carnival. The Cup has seen champions like Black Tom (2006) and Lords Ransom (2010), solidifying Ascot as a key venue for long-distance racing.
