2. The First Ever Stradbroke Handicap (1890)

The Stradbroke Handicap, Queensland’s most prestigious race, was first run in 1890 and remains a highlight of the Brisbane Winter Carnival. Over the years, it has been won by some of Australia’s greatest racehorses, including Rough Habit (1991-92), Dane Ripper (1997), and Trekking (2019). The Stradbroke has become a proving ground for elite sprinters and milers, cementing Eagle Farm’s place in Australian racing history.
